The Quarry Mining Production Centre is made up of seven, state of the art, CNC Mazak machining centre’s and lathes and one automated robotic de-burring cell. In November of this year, our centre won the Hunter Manufacturing Award for Excellence in Technology sponsored by Ampcontrol.
The idea for the robotic de-burring cell came from the identification of a bottle neck created by the mass production from the integrex machines. The manual de-burring process (taking steel burrs off the bit bodies) is slow and conducive to many minor, and possibly major injuries to workers. The robot has improved safety and eliminated the need for training and JSA’s for this task. It also allows for the de-burring operation to keep up with the production rates. This type of automation has not to our knowledge been done before in Australia.
