“Let me just say that Fred Astaire I’m not. He’s right up there in the iconic greats of dance and musical theatre. I’m more comfortable down a mine or for leisure racking up some serious k’s on my bike. So it was with some trepidation, no, let’s be honest and notch that up to ‘fear’ that I attended my first dance lesson. Lulled into a false sense of security by the utter calm of the dance studio and obvious confidence the staff had that I’d actually get the hang of this, I started what will be a 12 week commitment to ensuring I can give a credible performance on the night.
At the moment I’m thinking Broadway Musicals-think Fred’s ‘Singing in the Rain’ or check out America’s male dancer extraordinaire Jacob Guzman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tebfkkNUSRk
I’m pretty sure Aimee is a great dance partner and instructor but a miracle maker she’s not so I need to manage expectations for my performance! Lesson one consisted on me learning 4 steps only, over and over for an hour. Then there’s homework-did I sign on for homework? Apparently yes, as I watch the video Aimee recorded with those 4 steps-over and over. Get the gist
I know there’s a lot of support for Dancing with the Stars and I’m pleased to dip a toe in the water of dance to help this great initiative. Maybe just baby steps to start.”
